It’s Now Legal to Smoke Cannabis in Australia’s Capital: An Interview With HEMP’s Michael Balderstone

The laws have been widely described as the first in Australia to legalise the personal use of marijuana. Yet that’s not quite what the ACT legislation does: it simply removes criminal and financial penalties for possessing and using small amounts of the drug. The Federal Government has made it clear that it opposes this shift and has threatened to use the Australian Federal Police (AFP) to enforce its own criminal laws against Canberrans who choose to light up.

MediPharm Labs Receives Australian Licence to Import Drugs
The Australian Department of Health, Drug Control Section has issued an import licence to MediPharm Labs Australia Pty. Ltd. for the importation of drugs listed in Schedule 4 of the Customs (Prohibited Imports) Regulations 1956. This licence will allow for the importation of cannabis, cannabinoids and cannabis resin from MediPharm Labs in Canada, and other global authorized exporters, for finalization into tinctures and other product forms in Australia.

iHempWA – Australian Industrial Hemp Conference
The 2nd Australian Industrial Hemp Conference will be held in Fremantle WA February 25 to 28 2020 and is expecting more than 400 attendees from the production, processing, investment, regulation and research sectors to attend. The author Bruce Pascoe (Dark Emu) and CSIRO’s Michael Robertson (CSIRO Agriculture and Food’s Science Director) open the Conference with keynote speeches on the invention of agriculture and how past practices might, or indeed should be considered together with future technologies. The talks by these pre-eminent speakers will be instructive to all Australians interested in the agricultural potential of industrial hemp and the production systems used in this country.

Third Medical Cannabis Product Approved In Ireland
A third has now been added to the list; an oral solution from Canada’s Tilray – THC10:CBD10. It contains 9.6 milligrams per millitre of tetrahydrocannabinol and 10 mg/ml of cannabidiol. The product comes in a 40 mL bottle and uses coconut oil as a carrier. It’s pretty pricey stuff – costing CAD $86.00 in its homeland.
