Hemp Embassy Headlines Issue 598 Feb 16 2024

Happy Friday Everyone!
The news is looking great this week.Cannabis studies are looking more and more positive all the time, and rightly so.The pollies really can’t argue that there’s no evidence anymore.I think at this rate I am publishing an article about a new study that highlights how great our plant is every week.
Here’s a couple from this week: “Cannabis Extract Triggers Death of Deadly Skin Cancer Cells”“New research finds no impairment on simulated driving performance from medical cannabis when used as prescribed”
Some pretty widely reported stories on the bust in Coorong.I don’t normally highlight stories like this but they’ve really gone out of their way on this one and just shows despite our progress, there’s still many heads stuck in old thinking.Once again weed takes one for the team.
The backflip in Thailand continues, still can’t, personally believe they are going through with it.You can’t just throw it back in the box… clearly the politicians don’t care for the people’s opinion. If they did, I doubt it would be so easy with literally 1000’s of dispensaries, cultivators and everything in between already well established.

Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) adopts the European Pharmacopoeia standards for medicinal cannabis products within Australia, as referenced in TGA Order 93 Section 7.
This adherence ensures that medicinal cannabis products produced or supplied in Australia align with internationally recognised quality standards, facilitating both domestic and international trade.
The recent update to the cannabis monograph (3028) on cannabis flower introduces changes that could influence the Australian medicinal cannabis testing standards:
1. Cannabinoid Content Deviation: The update narrows the allowable deviation of cannabinoid content to within 10%, aiming to enhance patient safety by improving the certainty of the potency of THC and CBD. This represents a significant shift from the current 20% deviation allowed by TGA Order 93. Importantly, this updated deviation restriction only applies to the two main cannabinoid active ingredients, THC and CBD.
2. Flower Harvesting Requirement: The new guideline requires the removal of as much plant stalk as possible from the female flowers; aiming to reduce the presence of stalks and other foreign matter in the final product.
Stricter Testing Limits: There are now more stringent limits for foreign matter, arsenic, cadmium, and lead (Table 1). These new limits are considerably lower than those currently specified in TGA Order 93, indicating a move towards higher safety and quality standards.

A thrilling and gut-wrenching history of the war on drugs. Johann Hari shows why it failed on every level – from moral to practical, individually to societally, economically to scientifically.
I’ve long held that prohibition is a crime of historical magnitude against the people of Latin America and deprived corners of the first world. Hari shows that the war on drugs really amounts to a war on addicts, the only real beneficiaries the narco kings, and the true cost the endless collateral chaos and murder of innocents.
Most importantly he reports the stunning evidence that addiction is overwhelmingly not a root cause but a symptom of trauma, abuse, hopelessness and loneliness, and the solution is care, connection, and support.
Hari carefully documents the historical and scientific experiments and makes a careful, measured, and realistic case for a new era of sanity. If you want to build a safer, more compassionate society, and break the back of organized crime, read this book and speak your mind.ViewThe HEMP Embassy Headlines are a selection of recent articles from news and media services primarily concerning Cannabis issues, the  consequences of prohibition and the challenges for law reform.
