High Headliners!

I’ve had a busy few weeks with MardiGrass and the Election running alongside each other. Neither are completely over, especially the Senate vote which will still take a couple of weeks to finish.

MardiGrass had the lowest police presence in thirty years and the lack of anxiety and the good vibe was obvious because of it. I may not like the way we have legal weed by prescription only but it certainly has given the cops permission to give us a break. Next we will need a prescription to drive without fear as they funnel us into their corporate weed system.

On the other side of the coin, it no doubt limited our election vote, as so many people figure it’s legal now. Despite that our vote increased substantially and the full details will be in the Headlines when they push the Senate button for the final count.

I loved having Jeremy Buckingham set up his “Into The Weeds” podcast in the Hemp Bar over MardiGrass and I recommend checking it out. His long experience in NSW Parliament as a Green is invaluable and we’re very fortunate to have him as our MP in Sydney.

Talking of the Greens, I realised in this election how much our Prime Minister doesn’t like them, which is a bit of a worry, as they’ve been the loudest voice in Canberra looking for a change in attitude on cannabis and it’s not like Albo wants to do anything to please them now. It’s important to remember they're just vulnerable humans like you and me, these politicians, and negotiating change is an art form of compromise and respect.

So, how did Legalise Cannabis Party fare in the Federal Election?

In the House of Representatives across New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia, a majority of votes (>81% at 3pm 08/05/25) had been counted. Some electoral funding to assist the Party to continue to contest upcoming elections (South Australia in early 2026, for example) and continue cannabis law reform, has been earned by the hard-working candidates, volunteers and committee members, alongside the most important, ever-increasing number of voters. Thank you all! Vote counting will continue for another week (or so) across the country for the remaining Senate seats and Legalise Cannabis Party is still in with a chance of a seat in Victoria!
