High Headliners!
I’ve been loving the cool weather. Not cold, nothing’s cold after growing up near Warrnambool, in paddocks with few trees left on them to block the winds straight off the Antarctic. And it’s the best time of the year in Nimbin for me also. The exhaustion of MardiGrass is over and we get a chance to get on top of the garden, in the never ending war with the weeds. The chickens are laying again and the citrus are lying around under their trees waiting to be picked up like giant lollies from God.
I love the new figures from Roy Morgan’s data showing 48% of Australians now support legalising weed, 41% opposed, 11% undecided. Roy calls it “a decisive shift in national sentiment towards legalisation”. It’s a steady shift from 33% yes and 56% no in 2015, 42% yes and 49% no in 2019, to now 48% and 41%. The scales have clearly tipped.
The question Roy asked of 69,000 adults was: “In your opinion should the smoking of marijuana be made legal – or remain illegal?” So why wouldn’t politicians respect those numbers, and also the 555,000 Australians who gave their number one Senate vote to the Legalise Cannabis Party? I’m going to write to Albo and invite him to visit Nimbin next time he’s in the area! What are my chances?
I also like the story from America saying how most healthcare professionals over there say they are “unprepared to discuss the therapeutic use of cannabis with their patients”. Of course they are, and it’s exactly the same here, where doctors are only taught the pharmaceutical healing route. Nothing herbal at all, and not much on nutrition either, I believe. No doubt most doctors have little or no experience using cannabis. It’s a complete takeover by Big Pharma!
Fortunately, ‘marijuana’, as Roy Morgan still calls it, is so safe to use that people find out for themselves eventually, if they persevere, on what and how to use the plant best for their individual needs. Once we are allowed to have dispensaries, they will hopefully have experienced people behind the counter. Meanwhile, the more medics discover what an awesome medicine it is, the more they are trying to get a foothold on supply. Even Thailand is now trying to make it available only on prescription.
Love to everyone!

Fun Fact!
The number of people using cannabis for medical purposes remained stable in Australia between 2019 and 2022–2023, but more people are accessing it with a prescription!
